What should your first AI task be?

Choose something small, checkable and reversible, such as turning personal notes into tasks.

The short answer

Do not begin with sending client emails or changing accounts. Learn to check outputs before granting more access.

Try it in three steps

  • Copy a short set of non-sensitive personal notes.
  • Ask for action items without inventing owners or dates.
  • Carry out one item to see whether the instruction is usable.

A practice prompt

Before you start

Use these personal practice notes without uploading a file.

Practice material (fictional)

Water the balcony plants. Return a library book on Saturday. Maybe buy a shelf; measure the space first.

Replace placeholders in the prompt with this material, or append the material if there are no placeholders. Reading time excludes doing the exercise.

Extract tasks only. Start each with a verb and leave dates blank when absent: [notes].

What to look for (not a recorded test result)

The actions are water plants, return the book and measure the space. Buying a shelf remains tentative and no dates are invented.

If it goes wrong

Replace vague tasks such as improve efficiency with observable actions such as check three receipts.

Check your result

Every task traces back to a note and none was invented.
